Where do you perform weddings?

Services typically occur in the Detroit metropolitan area, though arrangements for destination weddings or alternative locations may be arranged.

Do you do vow renewals?

The typical rate to fulfill the services of your customized vow renewal from start to finish is $200.   Vow Renewal is a great way to rekindle the fire, celebrate the longevity of the marriage, or to reaffirm a new beginning at the sight of an empty nest.

How much do you charge for weddings?

The typical rate to fulfill the services of your customized wedding from start to finish is $200 for a short and sweet elopement ceremony with family, $400 for my standard wedding services, and $500 and up for weddings outside the metro Detroit area due to time and expenses.

Where were you ordained?

I was ordained through the Universal Life Church, based in Modesto, California.  .

Do you create personalized ceremonies?

Yes!  In fact, every ceremony is created to personally attune with the couple after the initial meeting, where Dr. Girdwood will get to know your personalities, beliefs, and relationship. Once you receive the draft, you may edit it as you like!

My fiance and I come from two different religious backgrounds. Is that okay?

Interfaith wedding ceremonies are one of the things I do best because I tailor your ceremony to weave together your religious traditions while remaining true to the both of you.

We would like to have a religious wedding ceremony, can you do that?

Yes, I am an ordained, non-denominational minister, and I may perform both religious and secular ceremonies.

Is it okay to not mention God in my ceremony?

Certainly!  My goal is to work with couples to create a custom ceremony that is authentic to them and their guests, respectful of their beliefs, whatever they may be.

Can we involve children / step-children in the ceremony?

Absolutely! Check out my Resources page for ideas beyond ring bearer / flower girl.

Do you perform same sex weddings?

Yes! I work with LGBTQ couples because I am happy to marry any couple who wants to tie the knot.

How do we book you?

Simply contact me to check the availability for your date. Once we talk over the phone about your wedding day / time / type of ceremony, I will send you a digital contract and hold your wedding date for 10 days while you have a chance to book by (1) signing the digital contract and (2) making a 50% deposit.

When is my final payment due?

The 50% balance payment is due no later than 30 days prior to the wedding date. However, when booking less than 30 days before your wedding, or when booking an elopement, payment is due in full at the time of booking.

Do you charge separate travel fees?

No, all travel is included in the package price. However, if you have selected a venue that does not offer free parking you are responsible for either validating or paying for your officiant’s parking. For destination weddings and wedding outside our service area of metro Detroit, overnight and gas accommodations as well as an additional service fee may also be required.

What if I have to change my start time or wedding date?

While I try to be as flexible as possible in accommodating changes, I cannot guarantee availability for a date or time change. Please contact me as soon as possible if you plan to change your wedding date or time so I may try to find a solution for you.

Will you come to our wedding rehearsal?

Yes, for an additional $100, depending on availability. Most couples don’t want (or need) the officiant at the rehearsal because a wedding rehearsal is to familiarize the bridal party with the ceremony location and program, but not actually the ceremony itself.

Do you allow pictures during the ceremony?

Always! Some ministers are touchy about how pictures are taken during the ceremony, but I am happy to work with your other vendors to make your day as special as possible–and captured! Your photographer and videographer can shoot whenever and however they would like.

We’re already legally married (but no one knows). Can you still perform a ceremony?

Yes, this happens all the time, especially for military couples. It is illegal to perform a “fake wedding ceremony”, so I simply need to see a copy of your marriage license before the wedding. We won’t be resigning anything, but I will make you a certificate to commemorate your special day! No one will know the difference, unless you let the cat out of the bag!

Are you really a Doctor?

Yes! I earned my Ph.D. in Political Science at Wayne State University during 2018. Of course, all Ph.D.s have a dissertation, indubitably!

I know we tip other vendors, but what about the officiant?

Gratuities are never expected, but are always appreciated!

I love it! How do I book with you?

Please fill out the form on our contact page AND text 586 292 5713 with “matrimony minister request” and we will get right back to you!
